Book of Jonah 
Materials needed:
  • Black or gray construction paper or a grocery bag;
  • cotton or small pieces of tissue paper;
  • a needle and thread or a staple gun;
  • one flat board; glue, a rag and scissors;
  • a few pieces of blue tissue paper.
Instructions:
  • Fold paper in half, with the fold on top.
  • Draw a picture of a whale.
  • Cut the upper lines of the whale.
  • Sew or staple the two halves of the whale cut-out.
  • Gently stuff the whale with cotton.
  • Glue bottom portion of whale cut-out to the tray.
  • Crinkle the pieces of blue tissue paper to look like waves and place all over the bottom of your whale and around the tray.

    Yarzheit Candle
    You will need:
    • 2 pounds paraffin wax;
    • a double boiler;
    • baking pan;
    • paper cups;
    • mixing spoon or stick wicks;
    • pencils.
    Instructions:
  • Fill the baking pan with cold water and place the paper cups in the pan.
  • Tie one end of each wick to the center of a pencil and balance it over each cup.
  • Roll any extra length of wick around the pencil until the wick's end touches the center of the cup's bottom.
  • Carefully, pour the melted wax evenly into each cup.
  • When the wax is totally hardened, remove the cups and untie wth wicks from the pencils.
  • Peel the paper cups away, trim the wicks, and trim any rough edges from the candles.

    Ner Tamid
    You will need:
    • Typing paper:
    • a pencil;
    • an empty soup can;
    • tape;
    • a hammer and nail;
    • 4 feet of wire;
    • a yarzheit candle;
    • and a hook.
    Instructions:
  • Wrap a piece of typing paper around the outside of the soup can.
  • Trim the paper to the height and circumference of the can.
  • Unwrap the paper and draw a Jewish symbol.
  • Fill the can with water and put it in the freezer.
  • After the water is frozen, rewrap the paper around the can, pattern-side out, and tape it into place.
  • Using a hammer and nail, retrace the pattern by punching holes about 1/8 inch , apart in the can. Make sure to include 4 holes spaced evenly apart near the top rim for hanging.
  • Allow the ice to melt in the sink and drain the can.
  • Hanging the Ner Tamid:

    1. Make hooks on the ends of two, two-foot lengths of wire by bending their ends around a pencil.
    2. Bend each wire in half and attach each to the can on opposite sides of the rim.
    3. Place a yarzheit candle in the can and with a hook for hanging
