SPIDER

Materials:
1 pumpkin, black fake fur, red thread, white paper or fabric (for fangs), two moving eyes, one 1" red pompom, 16 black fuzzy pipe cleaners, 1 push-pin, black poster-board, glue, scissors, self-adhesive magnetic strips. (level 1)
 Directions:
1. Using black poster-board, cut a 4 " circle. Use the circle as a guide to cut an identical circle from the fake fur. Glue the poster-board to the flat side of the fake fur.

2. Cut two 3" pieces of magnetic strip. Attach the sticky side of one of the strips to the poster-board side of your circle. Attach an identical strip to your pumpkin - slightly higher than the middle of your pumpkin.

3. Cut a 3" piece of red string for your spider's mouth, and 1" triangle fangs from white paper or cloth.

4. Glue eyes, red string & fangs to the fury side of your spider's head.

5. "Magnetically" attach the spider's head to the pumpkin.

6. Have an adult help you cut a red pompom in half. Glue half a pompom to your spider's belly, for a "poisonous" effect.

7. Twist together 2 black pipe cleaners, eight times. These will be your spider's eight legs. Bend each joined set in the middle to form an arch and give the appearance of a jointed leg.

8. Get an adult to help you poke 4 holes, 1 *" apart in a straight line through the horizontal midsection of the pumpkin. This must be repeated on both sides of your pumpkin.

9. Insert one end of the pipe cleaner legs into each of the eight holes.

10. Adjust your spider's legs to desired poses.

PIRATE

Materials:
1 pumpkin, black construction paper or poster-board, red bandana, black elastic, stick-on ears, black easy-felt, white felt, one 1" green gumball, one moving eyes, cardboard, red & black markers, tin foil, self-adhesive magnetic strips, glue, scissors, single hole-punch. (level 3)
Directions:
1. Begin with the eye-patch. Cut a rounded 3" triangle and use a hole-punch to create two holes where you can attach your black elastic band. Tie it to your pumpkin's head - using pushpins to secure it if necessary.

2. Secure a bandana to the top of your pumpkin's head - you may need help tying the knot - this can be a bit tricky.

3. Cut a 4" half circle form black felt. Cut a 2 white half circle to glue to the top of the black one. One half of a 1" green gumball is glued to the top of that & roaming eye tops the whole thing off.

4. Cut two 3" pieces of magnetic strip.

5. Attach the sticky side of one of the strips to the poster-board side of your circle. Attach an identical strip to your pumpkin - slightly higher than the middle of your pumpki

6. Cut a 4" circle from cardboard. Fold the circle in half & cut sharp ridges along the fold-line to make your pirate's teeth. Color his lips red with a marker.

7. Attach mouth with 3" magnetic strip.

8. Cut an 8" knife from cardboard. Color the handle black with a marker. Wrap the "blade" in tinfoil. Place it in the pirate's mouth.

9. Halloween ears are optional - attach w/ magnetic strips. Add an earring by folding a piece of tinfoil and dangling it from one earlobe.
