Halloween

History and Origin
It started almost 2000 years back, when the Pagans used to celebrate the last day of the Celtic year to honor the dead known as All Hallows’ Eve (October 31st ). It is the evening before All Saints Day (November 1st), which was created by Christians to convert pagans. It is an important date on the Catholic calendar, a time to observe and honor saints. As per the traditions, it is believed that the spirits of the dead return to where they lived and the witches, demons as well as the evil spirits become active.

The term Halloween has been derived from “All Hallows’ Eve” considered as the eve of "All Hallows’ Day", now known as All Saints’ Day.

A traditional food is eaten during this time known as “barnbrack”. It is a fruitcake and is believed that while eating if someone finds a ring in the cake it means he or she will get married soon or if they get a piece of straw good luck is on its way.
