PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN

I used to be proud to be an American
The red white and the blue
I used to be proud to be an American
standing for something I knew was true
I used to be proud to be an American

I stood next to the flag with a smile
tears ran down and I thought for a while
about how lucky I was to be
in the land of the free
I was a child back at that time
and a little song or a little rhyme
was all I needed to make me proud

cause I used to be proud to be an American
the red the white and the blue
I used to be proud to be an American
no its seems just the blue
I used to be proud to be an American

Well years have passed me by
and that innocents that use to cry
left some long time ago
when he left I don't really know
caught up in crooked politics
this land I loved now made me sick
no longer did I feel so proud

cause I used to be proud to be an American
the red the white and the blue
I used to be proud to be an American
now I don't know what to do
I used to proud to be an American

As I looked at the flag waved high
something must have got in my eye
suddenly something had changed
and finally the truth I had gained
I looked and saw the American dream
Like the land of the free it finally seemed

And I still am proud to be an American
the red, white and blue
and I still am proud to be an American
look at the stars and you will too
and I still am proud to be an American
